You might notice a link to Wil Wheaton's blog over on the right column of this page. I read Wil's blog regularly.
He is a sponsored poker player for Poker Stars. Yesterday Wil posted news of an idea he had regarding a poker stars online poker tournament for charity to benefit the hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
I sat in my living room, and flipped between CNN and The Weather Channel. My mind struggled to process the catastrophic devastation unleashed by Katrina.
Tears filled my eyes and spilled down my face as the magnitude of this disaster set in. I realized that the last time I felt this way was during the tsunami, and 9/11 before that.
"I have to do something," I thought, "but what?"
As always Wil's post is eloquent and fun to read. He is charming, passionate and funny. As I'm not nearly the writer that Wil is, I'm not going to try and cover the same ground. If Poker is your thing and you want to do something a bit different to assist with the relief efforts, then I suggest you surf over to Wil's site and read up on the tournaments. Wil had a great idea and the cats at PokerStars.net reraised him on his ideas. My personal surfing computer at home is a Mac, so I can't play at PokerStars.net, but if I could I would definitely try to sign up for this charity event.
