Theives, musicians, serial killers...

While Babble-on was offline earlier this year my pal nlinus started a new podcast called the kNOw Show. His third installment was The Simian Show and paid homage to my podcast The Simian Syndicate. He also uses (to my eternal delight) the Booze Monkey tune "Taylor Boogie" from "Good Luck Mr. Gorsky" as his show's theme song.

I dig the kNOw Show! I find it highly entertaining. I was inspired, flattered and amused by The Simian Show. As Babble-on was offline at the time, nlinus also mentioned the forum in his show. The Babble-on vibe was evident, methinks, throughout the episode. This makes sense as nlinus is a part of the Babble-on community - he is part of that vibe.

As I stated I was also inspired by his show. I decided to pursue this inspiration in the studio this past weekend. The result is a downtempo tune I've entitled "Theives, musicians, serial killers..." and I'm giving away for anyone who might be interested.

I've created a page at SanityCheck.net for the song and I've linked to it from the Simian Syndicate podcast page.

Thanks nlinus!

If you are interested, check it out at the links below. It's free, it's weird, it is best for those who drive around listening to XM's "Chill" station (Christina!).

A New KASS!!

There's a new episode of the Ken & Squip Show online!

On Halloween 2005 Kenster J. and Beautiful Cindy the Squipper posted their one year anniversary extravaganza. It was their 32nd podcast and it was a 90 minute blow-out celebrating a year long exploration of a medium that was barely a year old itself. If you've never listened to KASS, the anniversary blowout is a great introduction, methinks.

On New Year's eve, Ken and Squip posted a brief six minute update recorded on a park bench in New York City that helped us dedicated fans ring in the new year. Since then they've taken a much deserved hiatus.

The new show is just about a half-hour long and, for the most part, is Ken flying solo as I understand Cindy has been quite busy. Ken put together a new show in celebration of Squip's twenty-ninth birthday. Cool birthday wish, methinks!

Ken is fantastic, funny, and masterful behind the mic. He tells a bunch of funny stories involving burst nipples, Natalie Merchant and a coked-out troll of a DJ, and his preternatural insight into the truth about the Higginbothams. But towards the end of the show he plays a bit that he and Cindy recorded previously that had not yet been podcast. In the bit he and Squip take the KASS-copter in a fly-over to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Radio Clash podcast. It is typically hysterical Ken & Squip. The kind of stuff that once nearly caused me to fall off of a ladder, and another time caused me to nearly drive a riding lawn mower into a satellite dish. Funny stuff!

Listening to the show, in part hosted by a solo and entertaining Kenster J followed by a portion featuring both the Kenster and Beautiful-Cindy made it apparent how brilliant and wonderful the chemistry between Ken and Squip truly is. It is something vaporous that cannot be easily defined or pin-pointed, is is simply a matter of chemistry. Ken and Cindy are two of the coolest people I've ever been fortunate enough to encounter, they are gracious, engaging, caring, damned-intelligent and funny as hell. But this particular show - which I enjoyed (twice) from beginning to end - clearly illustrates the real magic that makes the Ken & Squip show one of the best podcasts ever - the chemistry between two funny and talented individuals.

I am overjoyed to have a new episode of The Ken & Squip Show!

"Take us up, Bob there's going to be trouble!"

Finally! Finally! Finally!

I finally fabricated the opportunity to listen to the anniversary installment in the Ken & Squip  Show (KASS) podcast! At the last minute we received the weekend off from the day-gig. We spent the weekend beginning the backlog of chores that have piled up at the Naked Acre Compound since Katrina first hit. It is going to be an ugly autumn at the Compound, boy o boy but a lot o shit has piled up. But that isn't important to this entry.

KASS is my favorite podcast to listen to while doing chores. It is fairly well documented that I love listening to Kenster J and Beautiful Cindy the Squipper while I'm riding around on my lawn mower. I think we might be finished with the damned mowing for 2005, now I'm preparing for the season of stacking firewood. Sigh. I didn't stack any firewood this weekend, but I covered it with a tarp and began preparing the area. For the most part I was returning my studio gear to my studio after finishing the surround sound mix for the South Mountain Magic score. I performed these bits of drudgery while listening to the KASS Anniversary Podcast on my iPod. KASS can take the drudgery out of any chore!

This show is without a doubt one of the best podcasts I've ever heard! It is perfect! I've raved about the show regularly on this blog, so if you've been reading my drivel you already know how much I love KASS. But this show is just fantastic. It is about 90 minutes long (and worth every second of it) and is comprised primarily of assembled "best of" clips from their year of podcasting. Just stop and think about that for a second... their year of podcasting. Ken and Cindy have been podcasting longer than I've been familiar with the word "podcasting". Yay that, and yay them!

I walked around for nearly two hours (I kept pausing to recount portions of the show to Christina) laughing hysterically, this show is the bestest. If you haven't listened yet, then listen to this one, if you've listened before then I suspect you are already interested. Get the show and download it and love it!

Oh, and now, I'm really really craving champagne.

Modern Podcasting Magazine

Mpmagcover_1 I've made the cover of Modern Podcasting Magazine! This will likely be the only time you will ever see my name in conjunction with the words "chart-topping".

The cover features a photo of both Kenster J and Beautiful Squip from The Ken & Squip Show posing in front of the locomotive that purportedly inspired The Clash song "Train in Vain".

While we are on the topic of Ken & Squip I'll take the opportunity to mention that the Ken & Squip show now has a new home on the Internets. Their new address is http://kenandsquipshow.com/, I've already changed the link in the sidebar here.

Note: this image was snagged from the KASS website!

Prostitution in the nether regions.

As I've mentioned several times before I have very few opportunities to listen to stuff. I can't listen at my day-gig, and I only have 12.8 miles between home and office. Currently, while working with the hurricane Katrina relief efforts, I haven't been able to listen to more than a song here and there.

But I've been chompin' at the bit to hear the new podcast from Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute and the Reverend Demize (F&R). They were incommunicado for almost all of August. They put up a new show right about the time that Katrina hit, I downloaded it, but I've been staring at the mp3 file since then without the opportunity to actually hear it.

Then yesterday morning I discovered that there was a new Ken & Squip Show (KASS) online!

I have a handful of favorite podcasts (they're all linked in the sidebar), and I'm behind on all of them, but these two shows have each been on hiatus. So after discovering the new KASS episode, I just couldn't hold out any longer. So in the wee hours this morning, when I really should have been sleeping, I listened to both of them.

First I listened to the new Fred Garvin (Male Prostitute) and the Reverend Demize Show!

Like KASS, I've mentioned F&R numerous times on The Simian Syndicate. Fred and the Rev. are professional radio personalities who've been canned from a number of radio stations over the years. They are nuts, so, well, that means I love their show. The new show doesn't feature Fred Garvin (male prostitute) because he has been abducted by aliens, or sent off to fight in Greenland on behalf of the Salvation Army, or something like that. I certainly missed Fred's ever-illustrious presence in this show, but the Rev. is a talented fucker, no doubt. His delivery of the explanation for the show's hiatus, alone, was worth the listen. Funny that!

If that wasn't enough reason to listen to the show, this one features quite a bit of music by yours truly. Yay! They mixed and mashed a bunch of stuff from my multi-media creation Church Of Chaos and they also played a Booze Monkey song from the live CD Sippin' Pretty. Yay!

The Rev. goes off on a rave about Spanish TV that revels in its' absence of political correctness, and had me laughing out loud. Quick, funny, and a great podcast. Not to be missed!

Then I listened to the new episode of the Ken and Squip Show!

I talk about Ken and Squip all of the time too. If you've ever checked out the Simian Syndicate, or if you've read this blog, you've almost certainly heard/read about my fondness for Ken & Squip. Their show is, hands down, one of my favorite podcasts. I find them to be two of the most genuinely funny people in the medium.

The have a unique means of twisting from story to story, digressing, then turning around and picking up the thread where they left off. The chemistry these two people have defies description, which is one of the many reasons why you should just rush out and check out their show. KASS is a bi-coastal podcast. Beautiful Cindy the Squipper ("What the fuck is a squib?!") resides in New York city, while Kenster J. lives in Portland. They actually record their show via Skype (which I heard was just bought by eBay?).

Both Ken and Cindy were considering a trip to my Birthday Bash in Winchester Virginia on the 10th of this month before my work for the hurricane Katrina relief efforts precluded my own attendance. If they'd shown up at our tiny little event I would have needed a doggy diaper of my own. Listen to the show, you'll get it.

Check out these two shows, they are fantastic!

Damnit, now I'm jonesin' to podcast...

Yay! A new episode of the Ken & Squip Show!

Note: I haven't heard it yet, I have several things I am bursting at the seems to hear, but haven't had the chance yet. I can't listen to things at work and... well... I only have a little time, driving back and forth each day. Usually Christina and I ride together, and seldom listen to anything. On the occasions that I we drive separately I usually try to catch up on something.

But I'm chompin' at the bit to hear it!

Vibes to Derek

Vibes to Derek from Skepticality who, as I understand it, suffered from what can best be described as a brain aneurysm and is currently in a coma.

Skepticality has been a very successful podcast and is much beloved. Vibes to Derek, his friends and his family.
